In this 7-week workshop, we will focus primarily on watercolor and ink as mediums for altering a book. As an embodied practice, altered text can be a means of gleaning language for our stories in places we  have been silenced. Beyond basic technical skills, this workshop is meant to be a space of contemplation and dialogue about how our particular stories inform the way we move in the world. We will make new connections to ourselves and others as we create together, exploring what the creative process reveals. I invite you to join me for this seven-week series to engage your story and explore the creative practice of altered text as a means of processing personal narrative in a warm and generous space.

Due to the personal nature of this particular art form, each participant is encouraged to choose their own book to alter. Hard covers are recommended due to the quality of the paper. Thicker paper will support the watercolor and ink more gracefully than the thinner pages of a paperback. Please contact Samantha by email (hello@samanthadavisgallery.com) prior to the first session if you have questions about selecting a book.

This workshop meets seven times during the 2019 summer term at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology
